Rs 580 Bn plan to cut travel time across Mumbai to under 1 hour

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced a comprehensive plan to encircle Mumbai with a ring road network aimed at reducing congestion, easing traffic, and cutting travel times over the next five years. The plan, which has received MMRDA approval, involves an investment of Rs 580 billion and includes the construction of over 90 km of roads, bridges, and tunnels.

The project is designed to cover the city from all directions, providing better connectivity to suburban areas and offering easier access to regions such as Gujarat in the north, Konkan Maharashtra in the south, and Western Maharashtra.

Mumbai, which has long struggled with traffic bottlenecks and rising congestion, has seen considerable infrastructure development in recent years. The MMRDA’s ambitious plan aims to divert heavy traffic from the city centre, offering quicker and more efficient travel through this extensive network.
