SECR hits milestone with auto signalling tech

The South East Central Railway (SECR) has emerged as a frontrunner in Indian Railways by implementing a 136.25 km automatic block signalling system, facilitating the smooth operation of multiple trains within the same section, thereby enhancing speed and capacity. The objective of SECR is to elevate safety standards and line capacity by strategically placing signals and integrating systems.

SECR heralded this remarkable achievement by deploying the automatic block signalling system, claiming the top spot in Indian Railways. A departure from the past practice, trains no longer require to await the preceding train's arrival at the next station before commencing their journey. Upon the departure of a train from the station yard, a green signal indicates clearance for another train to proceed in the same block section. Furthermore, real-time information on train location is readily accessible.

SECR conveyed, "We have successfully inaugurated the longest stretch of the automatic signaling system. In this system, signals are strategically positioned approximately 1.5 kilometers ahead of the advance starter signal in the station yard. Previously, only one train could operate between two stations, but with auto signaling, up to 4, 5, or even 6 trains can now function in each section, depending on the station distance."

During the preceding fiscal year, SECR completed the installation of the automatic signaling system across various rail lines, encompassing stretches from Bilha to Jayramnagar (30 km), Kalmna to Durg (259 km), Bilaspur to Ghutku (16 km), and Champa to Uraga (28 km). In the fiscal year 2023-24, an additional 136.25 kilometers of automatic signaling system were accomplished, including sections from Jayram Nagar to Akaltara (34 km), Uraga to Gevra Road (16.25 km), Durg to Kumhari (54 km), Dhanoli to Gudma (18 km), Salwa to Kamthi (11 km), and Bilaspur Card Cabin to Uslapur (03 km).
