Sikkim landslide causes Rs 327 cr loss to Teesta-V project: NHPC

State-run hydro power company NHPC announced on Tuesday that a significant landslide in Sikkim has impacted its 510 MW Teesta-V Power Station, resulting in an estimated loss of approximately Rs 327.67 crore. The power station is currently non-operational and undergoing restoration following flash floods in October 2023.

In a regulatory filing, NHPC stated, "The estimated total amount of loss/re-do cost for material damage (being reported to the insurance company) due to the landslide at Teesta-V Power Station (510 MW), which occurred on August 20, 2024, is Rs 327.67 crore."

The Teesta-V Power Station, with a configuration of 3x170 MW, operates as a run-of-the-river scheme with diurnal storage, designed to harness the hydro power potential of the Teesta River for peak generation during lean seasons. The power station was commissioned in 2008.
