Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Lays Foundation for Rs 3.14 Bn TIDEL Park

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin laid the foundation stone for the Madurai TIDEL Park via video conference on Tuesday, marking a major milestone in the state’s push for IT sector expansion. The demand for a TIDEL Park in Madurai had been a long-standing request from the IT industry, and in response to this, the state government announced its establishment in the Mattuthavani area during a State Assembly session.
A 9.97-acre site, strategically located between the Mattuthavani bus terminus and the paddy trade complex, has been allocated by the Madurai Corporation for the project. The upcoming IT hub will feature a state-of-the-art office space covering approximately 52,000 square feet, comprising a ground floor, 12 additional floors, and a terrace. Environmental clearance has already been secured, and a private company has been awarded the construction contract.
With an estimated investment of Rs 3.14 billion, the TIDEL Park is expected to generate around 6,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, significantly boosting the region’s IT ecosystem. Designed as a single-block structure extending 72 meters in length, the development will include all essential infrastructure, including a dedicated drinking water supply from the Madurai Corporation.
The inauguration event was attended by key dignitaries, including Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Madurai District Collector Sangeetha, and Madurai Mayor Indirani. Following the virtual foundation stone-laying ceremony by CM MK Stalin, construction work commenced immediately, with an expected completion timeline of 18 months.
The establishment of the Madurai TIDEL Park aligns with Tamil Nadu’s broader vision of transforming itself into a leading technology hub. The state already boasts some of the country’s most advanced IT corridors in Chennai, Coimbatore, and Trichy, with Madurai now joining the ranks as a key destination for technology-driven investments.
India’s IT and software services industry has been a crucial driver of economic growth, contributing significantly to GDP and employment. With the rise of Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities as emerging IT hubs, the expansion of digital infrastructure is becoming a priority for state governments. Tamil Nadu’s proactive approach in developing IT parks across different regions aims to decentralise technology-driven job opportunities, reducing migration to metros while fostering local economic development.
As Tamil Nadu continues to attract global IT investments, the Madurai TIDEL Park is set to play a pivotal role in positioning the city as a thriving technology and innovation centre, further enhancing the state’s reputation as a premier IT destination.
