TCP Notifies 0.97 mn Sq M Land In Mormugao Salcete Under 39A

The Town and Country Planning Department has notified the conversion of 973,208 square metres into Non-Developable Areas in the Regional Plan 2021 under Section 39A of the TCP Act. The figure is equivalent to 0.973 million square metres (mn sq m) and covers locations on Sao-Jorge Island in Mormugao and in Gonsua and Majorda in Salcete. The notification was issued on August nine, 2026 and follows a formal decision recorded by the department.

Of the total area, 663,802 square metres are located on Sao-Jorge Island, equal to 0.664 million square metres (mn sq m). The remainder amounts to 309,406 square metres in Gonsua and Majorda, equivalent to 0.309 million square metres (mn sq m). The department presented the quantitative breakdown in the formal notification accompanying the Regional Plan revisions.

The alterations were approved by the government after recommendations from the Goa Town and Country Planning Board at its meeting on June 29 and after consideration of suggestions received from the public. The department framed the notification to reflect those recommendations and to record the public consultation outcomes. Officials framed the legal basis for the change under the provisions of Section 39A of the TCP Act.

The notification specifies that the designated Non-Developable Areas will remain subject to the outcome of public interest litigation and writ petitions pending before the High Court. Implementation of planning controls and any development proposals in the affected villages will therefore depend on the court outcome and subsequent orders from the department. Authorities indicated that further administrative steps will await resolution of the pending legal proceedings.
