The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC), the technical arm of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has signed an MoU with the SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) to collaborate on research, joint studies, and technical contributions in advanced telecom technologies and global standardisation.

The partnership focuses on creating India-specific standards, test frameworks, and contributions to future network technologies including 6G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN), and Quantum Communication. It also seeks to strengthen India’s role in ITU-T, ITU-D, and ITU-R Study and Focus Groups.

Signed recently at SRMIST Kattankulathur, Chengalpattu, the MoU formalises cooperation between TEC and SRMIST on next-generation telecom systems and standardisation. Representatives from both organisations, including senior officials and faculty leaders, attended the signing ceremony.

Key areas of collaboration include AI-driven 6G technologies, digital twin-based optimisation, quantum communication, edge AI, Generative AI, cybersecurity, RF and terahertz research, mmWave and cognitive radio, optical communication systems, NTNs, and Open RAN.

The partnership aims to accelerate indigenous innovation and enhance India’s global influence by contributing actively to ITU and 3GPP. It aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision by supporting home-grown R&D, standards, and manufacturing capabilities to strengthen national telecom infrastructure.
