Telangana rain: State drenched in Rs 8.5 Bn repair bill

It was reported that the relentless rains over the past two days in Telangana caused widespread devastation, severely damaging electricity poles, power sub-stations, state and national highways, bridges, and culverts. The gravel beneath railway tracks in Mahabubabad, Khammam, and Warangal was washed away, and vast areas of crops were submerged, with heavy rain forecasted for the next 24 hours.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah dispatched nine National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to Telangana, while the Chief Minister instructed all ministers, the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, heads and officials of all departments, and district collectors to carry out rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.

The state also requested helicopters from the Indian Navy, stationed at Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru, and other locations. NDRF and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams promptly began rescuing people stranded in Khammam, Mahabubabad, Nalgonda, and Warangal, where the rainfall was particularly intense.

Additionally, an under-construction bridge collapsed on NH44, leading to traffic jams in Nizamabad, and traffic was stranded on several national and state highways.
