Titagarh Naval Systems Wins Approval For Falta Expansion

Titagarh Naval Systems Limited has received in-principle approval from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways for a brownfield expansion at Falta, West Bengal under the Government of India’s Shipbuilding Development Scheme.

The approval followed recommendations of the third Inter-Ministerial Governing Board of the National Shipbuilding Mission and signals inter-ministerial support for upgraded shipbuilding infrastructure. The project aims to bolster domestic capacity for defence and commercial vessel construction.

The total project cost is Rs six point one billion (bn), with government capital assistance of around Rs one point two nine bn for eligible plant and machinery subject to scheme guidelines. Assistance is contingent on compliance and will be used to modernise facilities and acquire specialised equipment.

The board has approved in principle the transfer of shipbuilding and maritime systems into a wholly owned subsidiary, Titagarh Naval Systems Limited, with an order book above Rs five billion (bn) including taxes. The company said the expansion will enable the shipyard to serve defence, commercial and export markets while reinforcing West Bengal as a maritime manufacturing hub.

The facility is designed with advanced automation aligned to Industry four point zero standards, builds on a legacy of more than 35 delivered vessels and will handle ships up to 180 metres with an annual capacity of 12-16 vessels. The company will continue existing projects including the Diving Support Craft and pursue partnerships to accelerate scaling as part of commitments to Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
