Tripura Plans Modernisation of Nagar Panchayats

The Tripura government has developed a master plan to establish modern infrastructure across all Nagar Panchayat and Municipal Council areas in the state, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced. The plan is being pursued alongside the ongoing Smart City Mission in Agartala, with the government seeking to improve civic facilities and public services.

Saha made the announcement while inaugurating a newly constructed two-storey ward office for Ward No. 43 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation at Pratapgarh. The facility was built at a cost of Rs. 9.74 mn. He said the government was focused on extending development and services to residents across the state.

The chief minister outlined improvements in Agartala in recent years, including access to drinking water, road repairs and construction, drainage upgrades, pucca housing, alternative employment opportunities and medical services. Under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0, the state has invested Rs. 1.12 bn in drinking water services, benefiting 16,000 families.

Saha also said 48 flats had been constructed for economically weaker sections, while two more were under development. Further initiatives are planned under AMRUT 3.0 as the government continues to expand urban infrastructure and improve access to basic amenities.

A total of 65 projects worth Rs. 5.81 bn have been implemented in Agartala under the Smart City Mission, according to the chief minister. The state government will also continue its focus on infrastructure development and beautification across the Agartala Municipal Corporation area.
