Godrej Enterprises Boosts EV Growth with Local Tooling Solutions

As India’s electric vehicle (EV) market experiences unprecedented growth, the tooling business of Godrej Enterprises Group is playing a critical role in enabling the sector’s supply chain with high-precision, locally manufactured solutions. With the automotive industry rapidly pivoting towards EVs, demand has surged for new engines, battery enclosures, and precision-formed sheet metal parts—all requiring advanced tooling systems.

Godrej Enterprises Group has enhanced its tooling capabilities to meet these evolving demands. The business has focused on delivering high-precision dies and tooling systems tailored for key EV components, including battery boxes and motor parts. Over the past three years, 10–15 per cent of its revenue has come from EV-related tooling orders—an indicator of the growing reliance on indigenous engineering solutions in the EV space.

To stay ahead of the curve, the company has been investing 2–3 per cent of its annual revenue in R&D and advanced manufacturing technology, enabling it to develop next-generation tools and boost production efficiency. These investments are aligned with the government's ‘Make in India’ initiative and efforts to reduce dependence on imports.

With May 2025 registering a 28 per cent year-on-year rise in EV sales, and 1.96 million units sold in FY 2025, the push for localised and scalable tooling solutions is stronger than ever. Godrej’s tooling division is supporting Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers across the country with fast, efficient, and reliable systems that are central to India’s transition to clean mobility.

Pankaj Abhyankar, Business Head, Tooling Business, Godrej Enterprises Group, said:

“As EV manufacturers scale up production to meet growing consumer demand, they require tooling partners who understand both the technical complexities and the commercial imperatives of this rapidly evolving sector. India’s EV transition is not just about vehicles, it’s about building a resilient, self-reliant, and globally competitive ecosystem. At Godrej Enterprises Group, we are proud to be enabling this transformation through our precision engineering solutions. These world-class tooling systems help reduce dependence on imports while improving lead times, cost efficiency, and product reliability.”

In addition to supporting domestic clients, Godrej Enterprises is also localising select tools previously imported, with the goal of boosting exports and creating secondary markets for made-in-India solutions. This dual strategy of global servicing and local manufacturing reinforces the company’s long-term vision of making India a hub for world-class tooling exports.

By merging engineering excellence, supply chain responsiveness, and a strong commitment to domestic manufacturing, Godrej Enterprises Group continues to position itself as a key enabler of India's fast-evolving EV industry.

Tough Bidding Norms Slow NHAI Road Project Awards

Stringent bidding rules imposed by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) have led to a slowdown in project awards by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), despite a robust Rs 3.5 trillion pipeline.
