Mumbai Airport to Relocate Private Aircraft Parking to Navi Mumbai by Year-End

Mumbai airport plans to shift private jets, turboprops, and charter aircraft to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) by year-end to address parking constraints. Currently, general aviation planes are parked at distant bays near Mumbai airport’s runway.
A spokesperson from Adani Airports Holdings Ltd stated, "NMIA will be operational in 2025, featuring modern aviation infrastructure, including hangars for private and charter aircraft."
The relocation aims to optimize Mumbai airport’s infrastructure for aeronautical purposes. While the city airport will remain accessible for general aviation, parked aircraft will move to NMIA or alternative locations post-disembarkation.
NMIA is expected to handle domestic flights by mid-2025, with its general aviation terminal, parking bays, and hangars ready by year-end. Capt. Rajesh Bali, Managing Director of the Business Aircraft Operators Association (BAOA), noted that NMIA's layout would address concerns over Mumbai airport's substandard parking bay placements, which require planes to be towed for efficient space utilisation.
Currently, Mumbai airport accommodates 24 general aviation planes. BAOA also raised concerns last year about NMIA's tender process for hangar operations, seeking more clarity and transparency.
This transition marks a step toward easing congestion and enhancing operational efficiency for private aviation in the region.
