Stalin unveils Saint-Gobain’s 3 facilities at World Glass Complex

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin unveiled three facilities – float glass plant, an integrated windows line and Saint-Gobain – SIPCOT Urban Forest at Saint-Gobain’s World Glass Complex at Sriperumbudur, in the presence of the CEO of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain, Benoit Bazin and the CEO of Asia Pacific & India Region, Saint-Gobain, B Santhanam.

Having invested in Tamil Nadu for more than two decades, Saint-Gobain is giving a thrust to the Tamil Nadu government’s idea of a $1 trillion economy, housing and green Tamil Nadu mission. Established with an investment of over Rs 500 crore, these facilities will render employment to more than 200 people and take the cumulative investment in the World Glass Complex to over Rs 3,750 crore.

The then Chief Minister M Karunanidhi laid the foundation stone of the first Float Glass Plant in January 1998, and unveiled it in September 2000. The plant has an extended production capacity of 130% with a revolutionary design that will lead to decreasing the unit energy consumption by 20%. This facility showcases capability, capacity, technology and state-of-the-art industry 4.0 features. It will fulfill the emerging requirements of architectural, automotive (comprising electric vehicles) and solar applications, furthering the $1 trillion economy vision.

The integrated windows line is the world’s first and Asia’s largest completely integrated plant. Spread over 10,000 sq m, it will have a yearly production capability of 100,000 windows by the end of 2022. The completely digitised and fully automated facility is funded by best-in-class innovation, research and testing to provide the biggest portfolio of UPVC window products concentrating on the evolving needs of acoustics, solar or thermal comfort and security. This integrated windows line is well-aligned with Tamil Nadu Government’s thrust on housing.
