Government gives green nod for airport project in Kutch worth Rs 14 billion

A new commercial airport will be developed in Kutch, Gujarat, after the Union Environment Ministry gave it a green nod following consultations from a panel of experts. Estimated to be worth Rs 14 billion, the project will be built by Mundra International Airport.

As reported, the environment clearance given to the project is dependent on the compliance of various conditions by the Adani Group subsidiary.

The proposed airport is set to bring about benefits for the local citizens on multiple fronts – it will improve rural infrastructure, provide employment opportunities and as a result improve the standard of living.

Reported to be commissioned in 2021-22, it will not only create jobs for about 8,000 individuals but will also improve air connectivity in the region.

The company has been directed by the government to attain all necessary clearances related to safety and project facilities from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

As per the proposal, apart from the development of a commercial airport on the existing Mundra airstrip, an aerospace manufacturing facility will also be set up.
