AAI Team Surveys Airport Sites

A five-member delegation from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) conducted an on-ground assessment in Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh, to identify suitable locations for a proposed airport. The initiative was announced by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu during his recent visit to the district, aiming to improve regional connectivity and foster economic growth.

The AAI team, led by Deputy General Manager Parvinder and comprising Malkit Singh, KP Venkata Raman, Sunil Kumar, and Sheik Abdul Azeez, surveyed land parcels across five villages in Mandasa and Vajrapukotturu mandals. Local officials, including Palasa RDO Venkatesh and tahesildars Hymavathi (Mandasa) and Sitarramaiah (Vajrapukotturu), facilitated the inspection process.

The team visited Ganguvada, Betalapuram, Lakshmipuram, Bidimi, Anakapalli, and Onkuru villages to evaluate several criteria essential for airport construction. Factors such as natural resources, availability of government and "girayat" lands, proximity to residential zones, and population density were examined. The delegation also consulted with officials from various departments to analyze water resources, mining activities, and groundwater availability in these areas.

The proposed airport holds significant potential for improving accessibility to Srikakulam and neighboring regions, promoting industrial and tourism opportunities. The AAI team’s thorough evaluation marks a crucial step in the project’s progression. Detailed reports from this visit will be compiled to decide on the feasibility and final selection of the location.

The initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to developing infrastructure and boosting economic activities in Andhra Pradesh. With the involvement of AAI and the proactive measures by district authorities, the proposed airport could transform Srikakulam into a vital hub for connectivity and growth.
