AAI Begins Work to Revive Tripura’s Kailashahar Airport

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has initiated the revival process for Kailashahar Airport in Tripura following a request from the state government. The move marks a significant step toward enhancing regional connectivity in the northeastern state.

M Raju Krishore, Regional Executive Director for AAI Northeast, visited the site along with Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport (MBB) Director G K Das and a team of engineers to assess the feasibility of the revival. The team conducted a detailed field inspection and held discussions with local officials to examine existing infrastructure conditions and requirements for resuming operations.

Kailashahar Airport has remained non-operational for several years. The state government is keen to restore the airport to boost economic activity, improve accessibility, and support tourism in the region.

The AAI team is expected to submit a technical report outlining required upgrades and investments. Based on the findings, a formal plan will be prepared to relaunch the airport operations.

The initiative aligns with the broader strategy of enhancing air connectivity across India's northeastern region under the regional air connectivity scheme.
