Air India Introduces Travel SIM Cards for Overseas Passengers

Air India has introduced travel SIM cards for passengers travelling overseas, enabling them to access voice and data services while abroad. The EasyRoam service has been developed in partnership with Tata Communications and is intended to simplify connectivity arrangements before and during international trips.

The Air India-branded SIM will be available as a physical card and an eSIM through a dedicated airline webpage. The SIM itself will initially be provided free of cost, while customers will need to purchase roaming packs based on their destinations and connectivity requirements.

Roaming plans covering 30 countries across North America, Europe, including the UK, Australia, the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East will start at Rs. 241, excluding taxes. Prices will vary according to the destination and plan selected. Customers purchasing a data plan will also receive up to 1 GB of additional complimentary data in all covered countries except Maldives and Mauritius.

The service will gradually expand to cover up to 190 countries. Passengers will be able to choose destination-specific or worldwide plans, with options for data-only or voice and data connectivity. EasyRoam will provide notifications and alerts to help users monitor usage and manage costs, while customers will also be able to retain their existing mobile number for up to one year at a nominal charge.

Tata Communications said its network partnerships with more than 600 mobile operators support connectivity across destinations and allow passengers to select plans according to their travel needs. The service is currently available through the Air India website and will later be offered on the airline’s mobile app. The companies said the service is designed to let customers select and activate mobile connectivity before departure and remain connected after arrival.
