Air India slapped with Rs 10 lakh fine

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has fined Air India Rs 10 lakh for its failure to adhere to regulations related to passenger facilities. Following inspections at Delhi, Kochi, and Bangalore airports, the regulator noted that Air India was not in compliance with the relevant Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) provisions.

Subsequently, a show-cause notice was issued to Air India on November 3. In its release on Wednesday, the DGCA stated that, based on Air India's response to the notice, it was determined that the airline had not fulfilled the CAR provisions. These violations included the failure to provide hotel accommodations for passengers affected by delayed flights, inadequate training of some ground personnel as per stipulations, and the non-payment of compensation to international business class passengers who were made to travel on unserviceable seats.

As a consequence of these shortcomings, the regulator has imposed a financial penalty of Rs 10 lakh on Air India.
