Civil Aviation Ministry Begins AAIB Recruitment After DG Retires

The Civil Aviation Ministry has initiated a recruitment process at the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) following the retirement of its director general, Yugandhar. The ministry has invited applications to fill the vacancy and has indicated that the process will conform to applicable service rules. The move is intended to restore full leadership at the bureau. The ministry has entrusted a selection committee to oversee the process and ensure compliance with established norms.

AAIB is the nodal agency responsible for the investigation of civil aviation accidents and incidents, and the director general leads technical probes and coordinates with national and international stakeholders. The recruitment call seeks a candidate with extensive experience in safety investigation, regulatory compliance and aviation protocol. The ministry has outlined that selection will follow standard public service procedures and merit based evaluation. The ministry has also indicated that experienced investigators from both civil and technical backgrounds will be considered for the post.

The vacancy arises at a time when aviation safety continues to be an area of regulatory focus and operational review. The new director general will be expected to enhance investigative capability, strengthen data driven analysis and ensure timely reporting of findings that support corrective action. Continuity in leadership is seen as essential to maintain confidence among operators and the travelling public.

The ministry has also signalled that interim arrangements will remain in place until a substantive appointment is completed and that candidate applications will be processed expeditiously. Stakeholders will be kept informed of progress through official channels and recruitment notifications. The appointment is expected to align with broader efforts to bolster civil aviation safety oversight.
