Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to commence land acquisition for the project. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is expected to be finalised by September 2025, and the airport is targeted for operational readiness by March 2029. Union MoS Muralidhar Mohol emphasised the growing demand for air transport infrastructure, stating, "Air transport is the fastest-growing sector, and infrastructure expansion is essential to meet this growth. The land acquisition process for Purandar airport will begin shortly, and we aim to finalise the DPR by September 2025." Mohol highlighted the rapid development of Pune and its surrounding areas, noting the increasing air traffic and passenger numbers.
