Mumbai's Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road left uncared for

Road users in Mumbai's Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road, which meets the Western Express highway, complain of pathetic state of the roads. Commuters who regularly takes this road to reach their Goregaon office wonder aloud whether this is the kind of infrastructure deserved by a metropolis which pays huge taxes.

The road is about a 1.5 km stretch near State Reserve Police Camp which is riddled with potholes and is a 'nightmare' for the motorists. The volume of traffic on this stretch, especially during peak hour, is the highest, according to a recent traffic volume survey conducted by the city’s municipal corporation.

Last month, the Brihamumbai Municipal Corporation released the findings of the quarterly survey for October to December 2012, which states that the ‘peak hour peak direction’ is the highest at this node. Given this traffic volume, the stretch between the police camp and Majaswadi in Jogeshwari (east) which is less than a kilometre can take anywhere between 30 minute and 45 minute during peak hours.

The Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road which measures 10.6km connects the eastern suburbs to the western, was completed in February 2005 at a cost of Rs 221.45 crore (as revealed in a reply to a Right To Information query).
