Ariyalur-Sendurai Highway Widening Nears Finish

The state highways department is on track to open the expanded four-lane Ariyalur-Sendurai highway for heavy vehicles by March 2024, with 70% of the construction already finished. The road expansion project, valued at 1.09 billion and initiated under the chief minister road development project (CMRDP) in June of the previous year, aims to enhance safety and accommodate the heavy traffic flow along the narrow 17.2km route connecting Ariyalur and Sendurai towns.

Officials recently conducted a quality inspection of the completed section, expressing contentment with the progress. The expansion involves widening the road from 7m to 15m and includes the construction of 43 new culverts and the widening of 12 existing ones. Additionally, stormwater drains covering Thamaraikulam and Rayampuram villages are being developed over a span of 6.9km to further improve the highway's infrastructure.
