Jaipur to Get Rs. 63.3 mn Footpaths Across Five Roads

Jaipur Development Authority has approved a Rs. 63.3 mn project to build 9 km of footpaths along five major roads, aiming to improve pedestrian movement across busy city corridors. Construction is scheduled to begin before Diwali, while tenders are expected to be invited shortly.

The project will cover New Sanganer Road between Gurjar Ki Thadi and Ajmer Road, Kings Road, Gopalpura Bypass, Mahesh Nagar 80-feet Road and Hans Marg between Gopalpura Bypass and the Riddhi Siddhi Underpass. The selected roads contain commercial establishments, coaching institutes and connections to established residential neighbourhoods, resulting in substantial daily pedestrian movement.

JDA commissioner Siddharth Mahajan said the planned footpaths would include greenery. The project has received financial and administrative approval, enabling the authority to proceed with tendering before construction starts. The authority has not disclosed the proposed width, surface material, accessibility provisions or design standards.

The routes connect busy junctions and destinations where pedestrians currently share space with traffic and commercial activity. Including five roads in one package is intended to extend pedestrian infrastructure across several parts of Jaipur rather than concentrating improvements on one isolated stretch. The supplied information does not specify whether the footpaths will continue across intersections or connect with bus stops and road crossings.

The immediate next step is the invitation of tenders. No contractor selection date, completion deadline or corridor-wise construction schedule has been provided. Details about planting, drainage, maintenance responsibility and protection from encroachment are also unavailable, although these factors will influence the long-term usability of the network. The tendering process is expected to provide further information on construction sequencing and design.
