NHAI Advances Rs. 2.88 bn NH-139 Daudnagar Bypass

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is advancing plans for a Rs. 2.88 bn bypass project on National Highway 139 around Daudnagar in Bihar. The procurement process has reached its final tendering stage, bringing the project closer to the start of civil works.

The project is intended to divert heavy commercial traffic from congested urban corridors along the Patna-Aurangabad transit route. Of the total allocation, Rs. 1.59 bn has been earmarked for civil road construction, while the balance will fund land compensation and acquisition activities.

NHAI will acquire 29.08 hectares across eight mauzas for the project. The identified areas are Amauna, Sipaha, Nima, Ankoraha, Tarari, Pilchi, Tarar and Mahawar, with land transfer forming a key requirement before construction can begin.

The proposed alignment will start near BEd College on the Daudnagar-Patna section and run east of Bhakhraua Chowk. It will cross NH-120 through a proposed overbridge before rejoining NH-139 near the Nasriganj Road overbridge towards Aurangabad. The route has been planned to provide a separate path for long-distance vehicles and reduce pressure on busy commercial nodes.

A joint administrative team recently inspected the corridor to accelerate the land transfer process. The team included NHAI Executive Engineer Tulsi Prasad, District Land Acquisition Officer Shubhendra Kumar Jha, Sub-Divisional Officer Ritesh Kumar Yadav and local land revenue officials. Following land clearance and completion of final tender evaluations, civil construction is scheduled to commence on site. The planned diversion is also expected to ease bottlenecks, particularly around Bhakhraua Chowk, where through traffic currently mixes with local urban movement.
