Sohna Road Sewer Line Upgrade to Begin by Month-End

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has awarded a tender for upgrading the sewer line between Rajiv Chowk and Sheeshpal Vihar on Sohna Road in Gurugram. Work is expected to begin by the end of October and is scheduled to be completed within three months, according to officials.

The repair will use cured-in-place pipe technology, which involves installing a liner inside the existing pipeline. NHAI has sent the technical design to the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) for approval before work begins. The project has been estimated to cost Rs. 580 mn.

The sewer line is around three decades old and has deteriorated significantly. It runs about 20 feet below the highway and carries sewage from sectors 45 to 51 to the sewage treatment plant in Behrampur.

Sohna Road has recorded six cave-ins near Sheeshpal Vihar in the past three years because of damage to the sewer line. On May 6, a section of the road near Subash Chowk, opposite SD Adarsh Vidyalaya, collapsed after the master sewer pipeline gave way. One lane of the main carriageway was subsequently barricaded.

A GMDA official said the highway authority had been asked to use a high-quality liner for the repair. The upgrade is intended to address repeated failures in the ageing pipeline and reduce the risk of further road collapses along the busy corridor. The work will be carried out below the highway, with the design approval required before the repair programme starts.
