Officers discussed the projects and achievements done so far in a meeting that assessed the progress of developmental works undertaken in Srinagar under the Roads and Buildings Sector during the current fiscal year. Mohammad Aijaz Asad, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, presided over the meeting. The Superintending Engineer R&B Circle Srinagar/Budgam informed the conference that 33 works have been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 24.0 crore with the goal of macadamizing/blacktop the roads. “Rs 4.48 crore are also being spent on filling of potholes on 12.70 kilometers of road in CD-1st, CD-2nd, Chadoora and PCD-Ist Division of Srinagar district,” an official spokesman said. “ In addition, 44 works have also been completed to blacktop 117.91 Km road length at a cost of Rs 31.07 Cr during G20 programmes.” Similarly, the Superintendent Engineer (R&B) Circular Road Project informed the DC that during the current fiscal year, a road length in the Circle is being black topped at a cost of Rs 6.48 crore. In terms of pothole patching, the DC emphasized the importance of finishing the work as soon as possible to enable the smooth passage of commuters. He also requested that work on Srinagar Smart City projects be completed as soon as possible. The DC was also informed that NABARD has sanctioned 8 works to blacktop roads at a cost of Rs 11.50 crore. It was also revealed that development on the Daggapora-Anchar road is currently underway at a cost of Rs 2.57 crore. While the road from Chahtterhama to Hadoora via Khimber along the S.E Canal, as well as associated links, is being upgraded at a cost of Rs 2.31 core to assist the local habitations. In the district sector, 11 projects worth Rs 1.42 crore have been sanctioned for the period 2023-24. The DC was informed that 10.95 km of road length is being macadamized under PMGSY-3 in Mirpora via Achar-DugaPora and Mujgund to Panzinara via Rambir Garh regions of the District while examining the status of works being done under PMGSY schemes. The DC also took a detailed review of Status of SAMAGRA Works and Proposed Budget 2023-24 under District Capex Budget for school Education of the District. Following a review of all works being carried out during the current fiscal year under R&B and other associated sectors, the Deputy Commissioner urged the officers to closely adhere to the deadlines of each project to ensure their prompt completion so that people as a whole benefit. The DC emphasized the importance of speeding up the execution procedure in order to complete the tasks on time. He pushed the officers in charge to keep a work-by-work Pert-Chart and to check the progress of the projects on a daily basis. During the meeting, the DC received firsthand information on the status of current significant development projects, including the 127-meter-long Noor-Jehan Bridge on the Jhelum River in Qamarwari, which is being built at a cost of Rs 10 crore. The DC also reviews the status of ongoing work on the construction of flyovers and Nowgam Junction, Bemina Crossing, and Sanat Nagar at a cost of Rs 34.90 crore, Rs 31.49 crore, and Rs 41 crore, respectively, with the goal of decongesting the City areas and ensuring smooth ply traffic on National Highway. The DC was informed that work on the Nowgam and Bemina flyovers is underway and that they will be operational by September of this year, while the Sanat Nagar flyover will be completed in November 2023. While evaluating the progress of work on the Rs 7.42 crore project for the construction of the second Tankipora bridge close to the DC Office Complex, the DC urged officers to work faster and finish the essential project. Similarly, the DC directed the officers to begin work on the construction of a footbridge across the Kut-kul to connect the parking facility in the Old Secretariat grounds with the Amar Niwas Complex, which houses the offices of the Financial Commissioner Revenue (FCR), Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar.
