Telangana Seeks Centre's Approval for Key Infrastructure Projects

Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy urged Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to approve several infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity, easing congestion and supporting regional economic development. The request was made during a meeting after the inauguration of the two-day Chintan Shivir-2026 highway infrastructure conclave in Gujarat.

For eastern Hyderabad, the state proposed a 6 km double-decker elevated corridor between LB Nagar and Hayathnagar. The proposal is intended to coordinate with the planned extension of the Miyapur–LB Nagar Metro Rail corridor to Hayathnagar under Phase 2. The Centre has already approved Rs. 5.45 bn for widening the LB Nagar–Malkapur section of NH-65 into a six-lane highway with service roads.

Reddy also sought approval for five ropeway projects estimated at Rs. 12.3 bn under the Parvatmala scheme, along with sanctions for three railway overbridge or railway underbridge projects under Setu Bandhan. He requested the accelerated widening of the Hyderabad–Vijayawada–Machilipatnam section of NH-65, where traffic has exceeded 120,000 passenger car units and several hazardous zones and accident blackspots have been identified.

The minister sought approval for an elevated corridor on NH-765 through the tiger reserve forest area on the Hyderabad–Srisailam route. The proposal is intended to improve travel for devotees while protecting the Nallamala forest. He also requested funding for 33 road projects under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund for FY27, covering 511.68 km at an estimated cost of Rs. 12.28 bn.

Reddy further urged speedy financial and Union Cabinet approval for the 161.518 km northern section of the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road. Telangana has offered to bear 50 per cent of land acquisition costs, while awards for more than 90 per cent of the land have reportedly been secured and tenders invited by the National Highways Authority of India. The state also sought development of the southern section and faster progress on the Hyderabad–Amaravati Greenfield Expressway, including a possible connection to a dry port and a spur to Bandar Port.
