Udaipur, Surat, and Udhna railway stations to be redeveloped soon

Indian Railways’ Udaipur, Surat, and Udhna stations will get a makeover soon, as a pre-bid meeting regarding the redevelopment of these stations was conducted, and 14 firms participated in it.

In the recent pre-bid meeting regarding the stations' redevelopment 14 leading Developers, Funds, and Consultants, namely, Kalpataru Group, Adani, Egis India, Sikka Associates, JKB Infrastructure, Cube Constructions, GMR, G R Infra, Monte Carlo, PSP Projects, MBL Infrastructures, Thoth Infrastructure, Virtuous Retail South Asia Private Limited (VRSA), and Adroit Financial competed.

Indian railway stations development corporation (IRSDC) conducted the meeting and it was mandated to revamp these three stations. The redevelopment aims to change these railway stations into a railopolis provided with state-of-the-art facilities at standard with those of an international airport.

The Udaipur station redevelopment will be performed on the design-build finance operate transfer (DBFOT) model on the transit-oriented development principle. The redevelopment project’s expected value is Rs 132 crores over three years. The concessionaire's term is 60 years.

Redevelopment of Udaipur station envisions a new east-side entry station building, connectivity with inter-state bus terminus by commercial land through a system of pedestrian walkways, providing new East-West Road connectivity by railway under bridges, as well as easy signage for all kinds of passengers, according to IRSDC.

The Surat multi-modal transportation hub (MMTH) redevelopment will be carried out by a special purpose vehicle (SPV), Surat Integrated Transportation Development Corporation Limited (SITCO), incorporated under the Companies Act, 2013 as a joint venture (JV) amongst IRSDC, Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), and Surat municipal corporation (SMC) with the consent of the Ministry of Railways and Gujarat government. The expected value is Rs 1,285 crore over four years for the redevelopment of Surat and Udhna railway stations.
