3 high-demand metro corridors listed in Trichy Corp's mobility plan

Three prospective routes have been identified as high-demand corridors for the projected metro rail network in the city, according to the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) created by Trichy Corporation with the help of a consultant located in Bengaluru. These 68 km-long lines may serve as Trichy Metro master plan projected by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).

The report, which is regarded as a long-term vision document for bettering non-motorised and public transportation in Trichy city, was created based on 20 different forms of data collecting and surveys carried out in an 803 sq km area. Study areas included all 65 of the city's wards, the municipalities of Lalgudi and Thuvakudi, and four town panchayats, totaling 1.47 million people. The three lines were identified as possible metro rail networks, according to the consultant, based on the passengers per hour per direction data (PPHPD) gathered with forecasts made until 2042.

Route One connects Samayapuram in the northern suburbs with Vayalur in the western suburbs across a distance of 18.7 km while passing through Srirangam and Thillai Nagar. The longest of the three routes, Route 2 is intended to go for 26 km from Thuvakudi to the Central Bus Stand in Panjapur. Route three will travel 23.3 km, linking the international airport and the semi-ring road at the Trichy railway connection with Panjapur. Three metro corridor alignments must be integrated at three locations. Central bus stand, railway junction and Panchapur IBT were identified as potential intersections. The corridors that have been suggested can be built out gradually, according to a source with the consultant.

Based on the city's capacity for passengers, the type of metro network, either Metro Lite or Metro Neo, and the number of coaches to be used will be chosen. The report's goal is to raise public transportation's proportion of urban travel from 22% in 2022 to 40% in 2042.
