Delhi okays Silapathar-Aalo railway line

The Union Railway Ministry has given clearance to the new railway line from Silapathar (Assam) to Aalo via Bame in the West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. Survey work is reportedly expected to begin soon. According to reports, a meeting was called on with Assam Chief Minister Pema Khandu to discuss the railway connectivity in the state. In addition to this, another new railway line from Assam’s North Lakhimpur to Ziro in Lower Subansiri district has been approved.

The officials have been reportedly directed by the Chief Minister to speed up the survey and investigation works. The survey works of railway lines – Margherita to Deomali (31 km), Lekhapani to Kharsang (25 km) and Itakhola to Seijosa (18 km) has been completed. Currently, the survey work of the railway lines – Doomdooma-Namsai-Wakro (96 km), Dangri-Roing (60 km), Deomali-Naharkatia (20 km), Kharsang-Miao-Nampong-New Kamlang Deban (75 km) and Tinsukia-Pasighat via Simalguri-Kanubari (300 km) are in progress.

The land acquisition process for the Murkongselek-Pasighat section of the 26 km railway line from Murkongselek to Pasighat and Pasighat-Tezu-Parashuram Kund-Rupai has been completed. According to reports, the survey work is at top speed in both the sections of the project. Also, the upcoming railway line from Bhalukpong to Tawang is expected to bring down the road distance from 385 km to 165 km on completion.
