Delhi Metro: 865 m tunnel corridor completed

A 865-metre tunnel between Chhatarpur and Chhatarpur Mandir stations on Delhi Metro?s under-construction Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor was completed on Wednesday. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot were present at the site for the breakthrough of the 97-metre-long tunnel boring (TBM) machine used in the tunnelling work.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation reported that two parallel circular tunnels for up and down movement are being constructed along this stretch as part of the corridor. It was stated that the work on the other parallel tunnel in this section is expected to be completed by September. The new tunnel has been constructed at an average depth of around 15 metres.

The TBM had to pass beneath the existing Yellow Line viaduct without causing any disruption to metro train operations on the line.
