First Meerut metro trainset arrives at NCRTC depot in Ghaziabad

The first Meerut Metro trainset reached the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) Depot in Duhai, Ghaziabad, on February 27, at midnight. Transported on large trailers, the trainset, consisting of three cars, has been unloaded for further assembly and testing.

Trainset Vinay Kumar Singh, MD, NCRTC, unveiled the first look of the Meerut Metro trainset. Alstom handed over the inaugural trainset to NCRTC at Savli, Gujarat, marking a significant milestone in the project.

This event signals the commencement of delivery and unveiling of Meerut Metro trainsets at the NCRTC Depot in Duhai.

Manufactured as part of the Make in India initiative, the Meerut Metro trainsets boast modern design, energy efficiency, lightweight construction, and a regenerative braking system compatible with Automatic Train Protection (ATP), Automatic Train Control (ATC), and Automatic Train Operations (ATO).

With a maximum operational speed of 120 kmph, the Meerut Metro aims to offer a safe, fast, and modern transportation solution for Meerut residents.

The arrival of the Meerut Metro trainset paves the way for imminent trial runs. The Meerut Metro corridor spans 23 km with 13 stations, with construction progressing rapidly. A noteworthy aspect is the integration of Namo Bharat trains and Meerut metro within the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS infrastructure. NCRTC has implemented the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 signaling with Hybrid Level 3 over Long Term Evolution (LTE), a pioneering effort in global rail transportation, enabling seamless integration of RRTS and metro services.

The Meerut Metro design prioritises passenger comfort, safety, and security, featuring air-conditioned coaches, comfortable seating, luggage racks, grab handles, USB device charging facilities, and other modern amenities.

The trainsets comprise three-car sets with ergonomically designed 2x2 transverse and longitudinal seating arrangements, accommodating over 700 passengers.

Built with modern, lightweight stainless steel coaches, the Meerut Metro offers comfortable standing space, luggage racks, CCTV cameras, mobile charging facilities, and dynamic route maps, ensuring a convenient commuting experience for passengers.
