Govt identifies 400 stations, 90 trains for asset monetisation

The Indian government has identified 90 passenger trains, 400 railway stations, railway stadiums and colonies, including the well-known Konkan and hill railways.

In the national monetisation plan, Indian Railways is the second biggest industry by the government after the road sector.

As per the media reports, monetisation of Indian Railways’ assets would collect more than Rs 1.52 lakh crore in four years till FY2025.

Indian Railways assets would provide 26% of the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP), worth Rs 6 lakh crore.

A few significant rail assets classified for monetisation throughout FY2022-25 comprise 90 passenger trains, 400 railway stations, 741 kilometres of Konkan Railway, one route of 1,400 km railway track, 15 railway stadiums, and selected railway colonies, over 265 good-shed (railway owned), and four hill railways as well.

In these four years, monetising passenger train and station services would probably raise Rs 21,642 crore and Rs 76,250 crore each.

On the other hand, monetising the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) of 673 km would collect Rs 20,178 crore, while the track, signalling, and overhead equipment (Track OHE) are likely to raise Rs 18,700 crore.

The estimated monetisation price of Konkan Railways’ is Rs 7,281 crore, while the price of hill railways’ is Rs 630 crore. The 265 good-sheds (railway owned) would probably collect Rs 5,565 crore. The price for railway colony reconstruction would be Rs 2,250 crore.

The NMP document revealed the Indicative Monetisation Value estimated price is Rs 1,52,496 crore during the NMP period FY2022-25.

From this, an amount of Rs 17,810 crore would be monetised this FY, which is Rs 57,222 crore in the coming FY 2022-23, Rs 44,907 crore in fiscal 2023-24, and Rs 32,557 crore in FY2024-25.
