Hitachi Rail Bags AFC Contract for Bangalore Metro Phase-2A & 2B

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has awarded the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) contract for Phase-2A and 2B of the Bangalore Metro to Hitachi Rail GTS India, which emerged as the lowest bidder.

Phase-2A of the Bangalore Metro covers the 18 km Blue Line corridor from Silk Board to K.R., while Phase-2B—the airport-link section—spans 37 km from Bengaluru city to Kempegowda International Airport (KIAL) in Devanahalli and includes 17 stations.

BMRCL invited bids in 2025, with a project completion deadline of 441 days. Technical bids were opened on 28 May 2025, with five firms participating. Following technical evaluation on 22 September 2025, three bidders were disqualified. The financial bids of the technically qualified firms were opened on 24 September 2025, with Hitachi Rail GTS India emerging as the lowest bidder at Rs 760 million. TVM Signalling and Transportation Systems submitted a bid of Rs 990.2 million.

The contract includes the design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the AFC system—including SLE, SC, and CCS—for Phase-2A and 2B, along with integration with the existing AFC system of Bangalore Metro.
