L&T Wins Rs. 100 bn Orders for Dhaka Metro Project

Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has secured orders valued at up to Rs. 100 bn for two systems packages under the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project’s Line 1 in Bangladesh. The company’s transportation infrastructure business will execute the track, electrical, signalling, telecommunications and platform screen door works.

The orders cover Contract Package CP09 for track works and electrical systems, and Contract Package CP10 for signalling, telecommunications and platform screen doors. L&T classifies contracts valued between Rs. 50 bn and Rs. 100 bn as major orders.

The project is Bangladesh’s first underground metro corridor and is being funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The 31 km route will include the Airport Route between Kamalapur and the airport, as well as the Purbachal Route from Natun Bazar to Purbachal Terminal. It will have 19 stations and a depot at Pitalganj.

For CP09, L&T and its Japanese partner Sumitomo Corporation will undertake the design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of track works, power supply and distribution systems, traction substations, overhead catenary systems and related electrical facilities across the corridor. Under CP10, L&T will execute the signalling, telecommunications and platform screen door systems for the full network.

The two packages constitute the core operational systems of Dhaka Metro Line 1. L&T previously delivered the integrated railway systems package for Dhaka Metro Line 6, Bangladesh’s first metro rail corridor, which is now in commercial operation. The company is also executing systems work for the Jakarta Metro.

L&T was scheduled to announce its second-quarter results after market hours on Tuesday. Its shares were trading 0.4 per cent higher at Rs. 3,694 following the order announcement, although the stock remained down 11 per cent so far in 2026.
