NFR Adds 11 Trains, Puts Mizoram on Rail Map

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) introduced 11 new train services in 2025, including the first-ever rail connections to Mizoram, enhancing passenger convenience and strengthening connectivity across the Northeast and adjoining regions, the railways said on Tuesday.

Mizoram was formally linked to India’s rail network in September with the launch of the weekly Sairang–Anand Vihar Rajdhani Express. This was followed by the introduction of the Guwahati–Sairang Express as a daily service and the Kolkata–Sairang Express operating three times a week, significantly improving access to the state.

Additional services introduced during the year include the Guwahati–North Lakhimpur Jan Shatabdi Express running twice a week, the New Bongaigaon–Guwahati Passenger operating daily, and the Tinsukia–Naharlagun Express on a tri-weekly basis.

Other new trains added to the network were the Sealdah–Jalpaiguri Road Weekly Express, the Danapur–Jogbani Vande Bharat Express operating six days a week, the Erode–Jogbani Amrit Bharat Express on a weekly schedule, and the daily Siliguri–Katihar Express.

In a boost to tourism and heritage travel, the Darjeeling–Ghum–Darjeeling toy train service was also introduced, catering to visitors seeking a scenic and cultural rail experience.

NFR said the introduction of these services reflects its continued efforts to improve rail connectivity, mobility and regional integration across the northeastern states.
