On CUMTA’s recommendation, CMRL will extend its metro network

The upcoming bus terminus at Kuthambakkam in the western suburbs, which is expected to be operational by July or August of this year, has been suggested by the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) as a potential extension of metro connectivity by the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).

The terminus near Thirumazhisai will span 25 acres and have 30 private service lanes and 70 bays of mofussil government bus lanes for buses travelling to western cities like Bengaluru and Krishnagiri. Moreover, there will be 36 spaces for MTC buses.

It is advised that CMRL begin the expansion construction quickly since 70% of the wi-fi enabled, high- tech Kuthambakkam terminus is now finished. The only projects still in progress are the escalators, EB substations, restrooms, and compound wall.

Officials from CUMTA claim that they have recommended to CMRL that the service be extended till the terminus and that they would issue a formal letter soon. According to an official, they only need to add a few kilometres from Poonamalee. With the expansion of metro connectivity, nearby residents and travellers will benefit from the right last-mile connectivity, which is necessary to fulfil the objective of the bus terminal.
