Prime Minister Flags Off Delhi-Faridabad Metro Extension

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has flagged off the Delhi-Faridabad Metro extension that links Badarpur in the national capital with Escorts Mujesar in Faridabad, improving travel between the capital and the industrial hub in Haryana. The extension is expected to serve around zero point two million (mn) commuters daily and to ease congestion on road corridors. Authorities expect the new stretch to relieve pressure on bus and road services and to offer more reliable journey times. The opening marks a further step in regional connectivity within the National Capital Region.

The project cost is nearly Rs 25 billion (bn). The Haryana government bore Rs 15.57 bn, the central government contributed Rs 5.37 bn and the Delhi Metro provided Rs 4 bn. The funding package enabled completion of the corridor within planned timelines and allowed authorities to focus on safety and systems testing.

The nine stations on the section are Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 28, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Neelam Chowk Ajronda, Bata Chowk and Escorts Mujesar. All stations are elevated and located on either side of the Delhi-Mathura Road, National Highway two. The stations have been designed to integrate with feeder services and to improve interchange with existing transport links. The corridor forms a link in the wider metro network serving adjacent towns and easing intra?city travel.

A Haryana government spokesperson said the nine?station corridor was 95 per cent indigenously built and that it would provide a safe, affordable, quick, comfortable, reliable, environment?friendly and sustainable transport facility. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and indicated that the Prime Minister would announce approval for a metro link between Gurgaon and Faridabad. Officials described the development as likely to raise the city's connectivity and to support economic activity and urban development.
