Soumya Mathur appointed 1st female GM of North Eastern Railway

After receiving approval from the cabinet's appointment committee, Soumya Mathur, the current additional member (finance) in the Railway Board, has made history as the first woman general manager of North Eastern Railway.

Mathur embarked on her railway career in 1987 as part of the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) 1987 batch. Her initial posting was in Vadodara, Western Railway, and she subsequently held various positions in the accounts department across Western, Northern, and Central Railway.

Throughout her career, Mathur served in key roles, including additional divisional railway manager (ADRM) in Western Railway's Mumbai Central, North Western Railway Jaipur, and principal financial advisor of Metro Railway Kolkata and Southeastern Railway Kolkata.

During her tenure as DRM Jaipur, Mathur spearheaded the transformation of Jaipur railway station, earning it the prestigious Platinum Green Rating and the top spot in cleanliness surveys. Additionally, she played a pivotal role in establishing Gandhinagar-Jaipur as an all-women main line station. Mathur received the special accolade of Best Change Agent from the Railway Board for her efforts in converting Gandhinagar Jaipur railway station into an all-women staff station.
