Tamil Nadu CM Seeks Early Approval for Metro Rail Phase 3

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure early approval for Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase 3, while thanking him for inaugurating Phase 2 and laying the foundation stone for other infrastructure projects in the state.

The Phase 2 project covers the stretch from Poonamallee to Vadapalani. Vijay also welcomed the announcement of high-speed rail corridors in the 2026 Union Budget and sought new corridors connecting Chennai with Kanyakumari and Coimbatore.

The chief minister outlined several priority road projects, including the proposed six-laning of important national highway sections. He said the road works were among the infrastructure initiatives requiring attention to improve connectivity across Tamil Nadu.

Vijay also described the Godavari-Cauvery river interlinking project as a national priority. He said the interlinking of rivers was necessary to promote equitable access to water among states and called for continued action on the proposal.

In addition, he requested steps to make Tamil the principal language used for proceedings of the Madras High Court. He also sought the release of Rs. 51.1 bn in outstanding central funds under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan scheme without conditions. The demands were made during the inauguration of various projects and covered transport, roads, water resources, judicial language and education funding.
