Telangana CM Urges Centre To Fast-Track Hyderabad Metro Phase II

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy urged the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar to approve the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase II and to expedite pending clearances following a meeting in New Delhi. He emphasised that expansion of the metro network was essential to guarantee safe public transport and to improve commuter convenience in a rapidly growing city. The appeal formed part of discussions on both Phase II and Phase III proposals.

The state government has prepared and submitted a Detailed Project Report for Metro Phase II proposing a 122.9 kilometre network across seven corridors at an estimated cost of Rs 38,595 crore, equivalent to around Rs 385.95 billion (bn). The DPR was presented to the Centre to secure necessary approvals and funding arrangements. Officials conveyed that the plan aims to address capacity constraints and to integrate suburban areas with the urban core.

Revanth informed the minister that the state had taken full control of Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase I from L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd to facilitate the smooth execution of expansion projects. The takeover is expected to streamline coordination and to make implementation of subsequent phases easier. State officials indicated that direct management of the existing network would help align operations and construction timelines.

The chief minister requested that Phase II be approved as a joint venture between the state and Union governments to share responsibilities and resources. He also sought support for a proposed RGI Airport–Bharat Future City corridor under Metro Phase III and stated that the DPR for that scheme had already been submitted to the Centre. The government projected that the expanded network would improve connectivity and accommodate rising demand for rapid transit.
