Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link to be completed 2023

The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project of Indian Railways is set to be completed by 2023.

According to the Ministry of Railways, the USBRL project budget for the year 2021-22 is Rs 4,200 crore.

The USBRL, which has been declared as a National project in 2002, has 272 km length from Udhampur to Baramulla, adjoining the valley of Kashmir with the rest of India.

The Udhampur-Katra section, which is 25 km long, was commissioned in July 2014.

The Qazigund-Baramulla section, which is 118 km long, was commissioned in October 2009. The Banihal-Qazigund section, which is 18 km long, was commissioned in June 2013, while the Katra to Banihal section, which is 111 km long, is still in progress and is expected to be completed by 2022-23. Here are some significant developments for the USBRL project during April and May 2021:

Anji Bridge: Main Pylon concreting: 130 metres of Main Pylon have been completed out of 193 metres. A lift of 4 metres in April, and a lift of 4 metres in May 2021. Also, the launching of 30 metres and cumulative assembly of segments which is 55 metres, has been achieved.

Chenab bridge: In the month of April, the world's tallest railway bridge's arch closure has been carried out successfully. The launching of 58 mt was held in April, and 163 mt was achieved in May. The complete launching that has been achieved is 10,619 mt. However, in recent times, the rise in Covid-19 cases has led to the area around Kauri's end of this bridge being declared as a micro containment zone and saw the imposition of certain restrictions.

Launching of 32 metres length was done in April and 15 metres was done in May 2021, at Bridge Number 39 in the Reasi area.

Launching of 42.5 metres length in April and 9 metres in May was done, at Bridge Number 43 in Bakkal in the Reasi area.

Tunnel Mining of 1.46 km was done in April and 0.78 km was done in May.
