Western Railway runs first electric train from Pipavav on High Rise OHE

On 21st September, the Western Railway ran the first electric train from Pipavav Port of Bhavnagar Division, which makes Pipavav the first Indian Port connected with High Rise OHE.

As per the Western Railways, with the flagging off this train, a new customer, Pipavav Rail Corporation Limited, has been added as Container Operator.

Additionally, it said that the first rake was loaded from Pipavav Port siding to Bhagat Ki Kothi in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. This port is directly connected with the Dedicated Freight Corridor with AC Traction of High Rise OHE.

The Western railway further said that this newly installed connectivity will help in several aspects, like the removal of undue detention on account of traction change, acceleration will be faster, direct connectivity via AC Traction between Pipavav Port, and Dedicated Freight Corridor and other significant destinations.

Additionally, this new initiative will help in reducing fuel costs, rendering an eco-friendly and energy-efficient mode of transportation. In the future, the move would likely help to improve the average speed of freight train services and result in seamless train operations.

As per the Western Railways, the new connectivity with Pipavav Port is the start of a new era for the zone and the Indian Railways network towards easy, smooth and fast transportation from ports in India.

To transform the Indian Railways network into Green Railways by 2030 the national transporter has taken a slew of steps towards mitigation of global warming and fighting climate change. Electrification of the rail network, developing the energy effectiveness of trains and locomotives and fixed establishments, green certification for establishments or railway stations, setting up bio-toilets, among others, are parts of the national transporter’s plan of accomplishing net-zero carbon emission.
