NMCG, BUIDCO, Adani sign concession agreement for STP in Bhagalpur

National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (BUIDCO) and Adani Enterprises Limited signed a concession agreement in JV with Organica Technologia Zrt, Hungary.

The agreement was signed for the development of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) for Bhagalpur on Hybrid Annuity on Public-private Partnership (PPP) model. The project was awarded at an overall cost of Rs 385.09 crore.

Director-General of NMCG, Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, ED of NMCG, Ashok Kumar Singh, the representatives of BUIDCO and the concessionaire were also present. It was signed by the Director of NMCG, Vindo Kumar, Executive Engineer of BUIDCO, Amlendu Kumar Ranjan and Authorised Signatory concessionaire, Akchhyakumar Singh.

The project intends to eliminate the flow of sewage from Bhagalpur into River Ganga and reduce river pollution. NMCG has approved the project for constructing STPs of a total capacity of 45 million litre per day (MLD), among other works, including Interception and Diversion structures, network laying, Sewage Pumping Stations, including operations and maintenance (O&M) for 15 years. The project also aims to improve the existing sewerage problems in the city and River Ganga.

Pollution reduction is important to maintain the habitat of the Gangetic Dolphin and other marine animals. It will ensure the maintenance of the biodiversity of the Gangetic region. It will reduce the pollution from the city with significant and stringent performance to eliminate pollution of the Gangetic Dolphin.
