SPML Infra Wins Rs 2.6 Billion Water Project in Chennai

SPML Infra, a prominent publicly listed infrastructure developer in India, has secured a Rs 2.58 billion contract from the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB). The project has been awarded to a consortium comprising SPML Infra (26 per cent) and JWIL Infra (74 per cent), which emerged as the lowest bidder and has received the Letter of Acceptance (LoA).
The scope of work includes the construction, testing, and commissioning of a major water reservoir in Porur, aimed at bolstering Chennai’s water storage and distribution capacity. The project also entails the development of a strategically located pumping station to ensure efficient water transfer, particularly servicing the Perur and Porur regions. Supporting infrastructure and ancillary works will also be executed to ensure smooth operation.
One of the key highlights of the project is the long-term operations and maintenance (O&M) component, with the consortium responsible for maintaining the facility for a period of 20 years, ensuring sustained service quality and infrastructure reliability.
This project underscores the growing focus on strengthening urban water infrastructure in Chennai and aligns with the city’s long-term water security and resilience goals.
