Imerys launches new refractory plant in India, expands presence

France-based mineral production company Imerys has announced the launch of its commercial sales outside of its latest calcium aluminate plant in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

While expanding the company's presence in the country, the group invested Rs 350 crore in this new plant to provide domestic customers with solutions accommodated to their local requirements.

From its new plant, Imerys will provide the construction market and the refractory with SECAR®70V, a calcium aluminate binder with controlled chemistry and optimised mineralogy for conventional castable applications.

It will also supply SECAR®68V, a calcium aluminate binder dedicated to growing demand in low-cement castables.

Imerys scientists developed these products to meet the particular requirements of the Indian refractory and construction industries and adapted to the climate of the sub-continent.

The plant will also work as a delivery centre of imported ready-to-use mortars and bentonite solutions to help the speedily growing infrastructure sector, specifically for applications like waste-water, tunnelling, and civil engineering in general.

The company hired 100 people from local areas who have been trained regularly as the commissioning of the plant was in process.

Alessandro DAZZA, CEO, told the media that the opening of this new plant is a milestone for Imerys. He said it is proof that the company continues to invest in developing markets and geographies.
