Coal India is pursuing acquisition of critical minerals in India

Coal India stated that it is actively pursuing the acquisition of critical minerals, including lithium, both in the domestic market and overseas, and emphasized its commitment to participating in the auction of such blocks. These critical minerals, such as lithium, are essential for the production of clean energy technologies, including wind turbines and electric cars, and are particularly sought after for manufacturing batteries for electric vehicles. During the 50th Annual General Meeting of the company, Coal India Ltd (CIL) Chairman P M Prasad mentioned that, with the aim of reducing dependence on imports of critical minerals like lithium and cobalt, CIL is actively seeking to acquire these mineral assets within India and abroad.

Prasad also noted that CIL will continue to participate in the e-auction of critical mineral blocks offered by the mines ministry. He highlighted that CIL has already made progress in the domestic market by emerging as the preferred bidder for the Khattali Chotti graphite block in Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh.
