Minister Joshi unveils Coal Logistics Policy for infra boost

Minister of Coal and Mines, Pralhad Joshi, has initiated a groundbreaking Coal Logistics Policy aimed at bolstering infrastructure development. This policy aims to streamline coal transportation and address bottlenecks in the coal supply chain, ensuring efficient and timely delivery of coal to power plants and other consumers.

The newly launched policy focuses on optimizing the utilization of railways for coal transportation, enhancing the efficiency of coal movement from pitheads to dispatch points. It also emphasizes the development of mechanized systems for coal loading and unloading, reducing manual handling and improving overall operational efficiency.

In addition to enhancing transportation infrastructure, the policy emphasizes the importance of technology adoption in monitoring and tracking coal movement. Implementation of technologies such as GPS tracking and RFID tagging will enable real-time monitoring of coal transportation, reducing pilferage and ensuring transparency in the supply chain.

Furthermore, the policy lays emphasis on increasing the share of coal transportation through conveyor belts and Merry-Go-Round systems, which are cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional transportation methods.

Joshi highlighted that the Coal Logistics Policy aligns with the government's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) by promoting domestic coal production and ensuring its efficient utilization. It is expected to not only boost the coal sector but also stimulate overall economic growth by ensuring reliable and affordable energy supply to various industries.

The implementation of the Coal Logistics Policy is set to revolutionize the coal transportation landscape in India, paving the way for enhanced infrastructure development and bolstering the nation's energy security.
