PNG Network Expanded to 111 More Delhi Villages by L-G and CM

The Delhi government has extended its Piped Natural Gas (PNG) network to an additional one hundred eleven villages, taking the total to two hundred forty-one. The initiative was inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, reflecting a joint vision for inclusive and sustainable energy access.

Implemented by Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the expansion nears completion of the city's rural gas connectivity mission. Phase I had covered one hundred thirty villages, and the remaining one hundred sixteen are expected to be connected by year-end.

A new CNG station was also launched in Mahipalpur to enhance energy supply in South West Delhi. The city’s pipeline now exceeds thirteen thousand kilometres, improving energy access and air quality.

The event featured virtual interactions with PNG users and in-person handovers to ten households, showcasing last-mile service delivery. The programme aligns with the Delhi Gramoday Abhiyan, aimed at bridging the urban-rural divide.

IGL Managing Director Kamal Kishore Chatiwal emphasised CNG’s role in India’s clean energy future, calling it a scalable and cost-effective alternative amid growing electric vehicle adoption.
