Adyant Enersol & UPC Renewables Secure SJVN's 600 MW Wind Project

Adyant Enersol (Datta Infra) and UPC Renewables secured contracts in SJVN’s auction to develop 600 MW inter-state transmission system (ISTS)-connected wind power projects under a build-own-operate model.

Adyant Enersol was awarded 70 MW with a tariff of Rs 3.98/kWh, while UPC Renewables secured 100 MW at a tariff of Rs 3.99/kWh.

The tender for these projects was issued in March 2024, allowing bidders to submit proposals for capacities ranging from a minimum of 50 MW to a maximum of 300 MW, with project sizes specified in multiples of 10 MW.

The selected developers are required to establish ISTS-connected wind power projects, including the necessary transmission infrastructure up to the interconnection or delivery point to supply power to SJVN. Additionally, they are responsible for securing all necessary clearances, permits, and licenses, as well as arranging land, installation, and project ownership. Connectivity for each project must also be ensured by the developers. The projects can be developed at any location within India.

SJVN will enter into power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the selected developers for a duration of 25 years. The power generated from these projects is planned to be distributed among multiple procurers.

The tender also considered wind projects that were already under construction, yet to be commissioned, or commissioned but selling power on a short-term merchant basis.

Only wind turbine models listed in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s Revised List of Models and Manufacturers are permitted for use in these projects to maintain high-quality standards and incorporate the latest technological advancements.

The declared or revised annual capacity utilization factor (CUF) must remain above 22 per cent. Developers are allowed a one-time revision of the CUF within the first three years of power supply commencement, ensuring that the revised CUF remains at least 90 per cent of the initially proposed value and does not fall below 22 per cent. After this period, the CUF for the contracted capacity will remain fixed for the entire PPA duration.

In November 2024, SJVN Green Energy initiated a separate bidding process for the development of GETCO-connected wind power projects in Gujarat, with a total capacity of up to 100 MW and a 10-year operations and maintenance commitment.

Centre Plans Nationwide Opening Of Power Retail Market

India is preparing to open up its retail electricity market to private companies nationwide, effectively ending the long-standing monopoly of state-run power distributors in most regions, according to a draft bill released by the Union Power Ministry on Friday. The move will enable major private sector players — including Adani Enterprises, Tata Power, Torrent Power, and CESC — to expand their presence across the country’s electricity distribution landscape. A similar reform attempt in 2022 had faced strong opposition from state-run distribution companies (discoms), which currently dom..
