Avaada Opens 1.5 GW Solar Module Plant in Uttar Pradesh

Avaada Group has inaugurated a 1.5 GW solar module manufacturing gigafactory in Dadri, Noida, and laid the foundation for a 5 GW solar manufacturing unit at Ecotech, Greater Noida.

The 1.5 GW plant specialises in tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) N-Type bifacial glass-to-glass solar modules with multi-bus bar configurations (16 to 24 bus bars) to enhance efficiency. It can produce M10 and G12 cells, with an annual capacity of 1.2 GW for M10 and 1.5 GW for G12 modules, and is currently producing 5,800 modules daily.
The upcoming 5 GW facility, focused on TOPCon N-Type solar cells, will span 50 acres and obtain certifications from the Bureau of Indian Standards, the International Electrotechnical Commission, and Underwriters Laboratories.

Avaada Group aims to achieve 11 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2026. It has raised over $1 billion from Brookfield’s Energy Transition Fund to support green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in India.

Last year, the company secured Rs 5.97 billion in refinancing from NIIF Infrastructure Finance for its commercial and industrial solar projects in Karnataka and Maharashtra. These projects supply power to companies like Bharti Airtel, Motherson, Bharat Forge, STT, Nxtra Data, and Lumax.

On March 6, Avaada Energy won Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam’s auction to supply power from 250 MW grid-connected solar projects with an additional 250 MW greenshoe option.
India added 1.3 GW of solar module and 2 GW of cell manufacturing capacity in the first half of 2024, according to Mercom India’s research report.

Uttarakhand HC Lifts 31-Year Ban on ONGC’s Contractual Hiring

The Uttarakhand High Court has lifted a 31-year-old ban on the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) from hiring contractual workers, a restriction imposed in 1993. The decision enables ONGC’s Dehradun establishment to employ personnel on a contractual basis to meet operational requirements. The long-standing prohibition had limited ONGC’s ability to fill vacancies in its technical and administrative departments, often leading to project delays and higher dependence on outsourcing. With the court’s directive, the public sector enterprise can now proceed with temporary recruitments whil..
